Baselines

Baselines are imaginary lines drawn under or below the written word on a unlined paper.
Baselines are easy to notice from a distance and at a perpendicular to the eye.
Tip: Life of baselines is 6 months.

Ascending Baselines

Ascending Baselines
Formation: Baselines go up. Ascending Up
Explanation: A baseline that runs uphill all the way to the last letter and does not drop off in the middle or at the end, then it is a ‘true ascending baseline.’
Characteristics: 
  • Something is positive in health, wealth or relationship.
  • Spirit of this person is high.

Ascending Baselines Exaggeration

Ascending Baselines Exaggeration
[Principle of Exaggeration]
Formation: Baselines too ascending or high.
Explanation: When exaggeration is present the opposite is true. When anything is overdone it is usually the opposite of what appears to be.
Characteristics:
  • They have stopped worrying about the environment.
  • Can be genuine depression.
  • The pretense of smooth good happening.

Ascending Baselines Untrue

Untrue Ascending Baselines. False Ascending Baselines.
Description: Baseline which starts rising uphill (goes up) but drops off (falls) at the end.
Explanation: It is true that it is ascending but since it falls down at the end we call it false ascending; it is an ascending that is false. It has a false appearance. A person who has a false ascending baseline is a quitter. The person may be enthusiastic about his/her goal as he/she starts but before reaching the goal gives up. They start with a lot of mental energy but before they could achieve the goal they retire. In false ascending the person gives up at the end of the line.
Characteristics:
  • Classic quitters.
  • They give up at the end.
  • Giving up becomes a habit.
  • Abrupt.

Ascending Words Constant Baselines

Ascending Words Constant Baselines
Formation: A word or a phrase suddenly jumps up on an even baseline. They rise off the baseline all of a sudden.
Explanation: If there is a constant baseline with ascending words, the writer has the enthusiasm and probably an over-optimistic attitude toward life; it may also denote an absence of stamina. The writer gets emotional or hysterical about the word or phrase without his/her knowledge which is seen in the raising of that word or phrase. The writer has hysterically invested much of energy in the word or phrase.

Ascending and Descending Together Baselines

Formation: Ascending and descending baselines together.
Characteristics:
  • Moody.
  • Very enthusiastic and very low.
  • Moral confusion.

Concave Baselines

Concave Baselines - Rebounding Baselines
Formation: The baseline is rising again after a descent.
Explanation: In a concave baseline, we find the starting and the end of a line equal but in the middle, the line sags.
Characteristics:
  • People who rise in the worst situation.
  • A very good team motivator. Team man.
  • Rises to the occasion.
  • Genuine team player.
  • People of crisis. Will work only in crisis.
  • People who have come from a very modest background.
  • When things are going well they are reasonably lethargic.
  • Last minute doers.

Convex Baselines

Convex Baselines
Formation: Baseline which starts descending in the middle.
Explanation: Convex arc is a rise followed by a descent whose meaning is a fading of initial enthusiasm and energy.
Characteristics:
  • People who have been forced to do some things.
  • Push, not motivation.
  • Thrust upon them and they are not accepting.
  • Not getting to do what they like.
Tip: Analyze this aspect with humanity.
Observation: This type of writing is not very common.
What to say
You are a person with much enthusiasm to get started, but find it hard to finish a task:
You have many good beginnings but you also are thought of as a poor finisher. You start off with enthusiasm but lack the energy and will to complete what you began with such luster.

Descending Baselines

Descending Baselines Depressive Baselines
Descending Baselines Slight
Formation: Descending baseline, when most of the (imaginary) lines going downwards.
Explanation: These people are negative in general. Perhaps they have met with defeat, disillusionment and constant disappointment in their lives which makes them to be depressed.
Characteristics:
  • Depression in motivator of either - health, wealth or relationships.
  • Pessimistic.
Too Descending Baselines
Characteristics:
  • More depression
  • More pessimism
  • Negative characteristics.
  • Want someone to sympathize.
  • Attention seeking.
  • Lonely.
Observation: In children’s handwriting we find most of them are descending baseline.
Observation: If all the lines of a writer are evenly and equally downhill, the writer has been depressed for a long time. For a long time, the writer learned to live with depression which has become a way of life for him/her.
Observation: Falling or descending lines point out a sinking feeling or one of diffidence. It is also possible that it results from a purely physical weakness or physical or mental tiredness of a temporary nature. It can also mean, a critical approach, down to earth, tiredness, depression, gloom and melancholy, pessimism, indolence, apathy, ill health, and digestive trouble.
What to say
You are a cautious person who may at times be pessimistic:
Although cautious and possibly pessimistic, you may suffer fatigue or even an illness. You may find that you lack energy and enthusiasm to complete a task and you, more than likely, find it difficult just to get started each day. You may find that you also have a tendency to be easily discouraged, worn out and weak as the day progresses. You may yearn to call it quits; just give up. Some may see you as a last minute quitter. It is also possible that you may be suffering with digestive problems. It would be wise for you to seek a doctor's care or contact a nutritionist about alternative medicine to see if the latter would help you feel more energetic and positive about yourself.

Explanation: A constant baseline with descending words indicates an internal fight against depression and a lack of self-confidence.
Characteristics:
  • Depressed
  • Lacking self-confidence

You may be an opportunist:
You may be a person who is considered to be insincere. You are probably an opportunist who takes advantage of any and all opportunities. Some may have the tendency to accuse you of fraud and the accusations may or may not be true. One thing is sure, you have the intelligence, charm and wit to defend your actions in such a way that your accusers will probably be entertained, even as they find fault with you.

Incoherent Baselines

Incoherent Baselines - Sociopathic Baselines
Formation: Finds difficulty in maintaining a coherent spatial pattern.
Explanation: An incoherent baseline writer has difficulty in maintaining a coherent spatial pattern and is unable to stay within any kind of a line or pattern of society. Anyone who cannot be within the norms of a society tends to be a sociopath.
Characteristics: 
  • Sociopath 
  • The rules of society do not matter to them.
What to say
Others may view you as deranged but you see yourself as marching to a different drum:
You may see yourself as losing a little touch with the real world; at times, walking the dividing line between conscious reality and the unconscious self. Your thoughts and actions make sense to you while others may talk about you as if you were a sociopath. You know that it only means they don't understand you and you don't always care to take the time to explain yourself. So you may find that you often just let people think what they want to think.

Partial Ascending (Usually just a word)

Formation: Baseline which is overly straight maintained.
Characteristics:
  • People who can simply fall the next step.
  • Given a chance will break rules.
Perfectionist - The baseline will be straight and even. This handwriting is that of a person who spends time putting everything in its place and reviews work trying to make it precise.
What to say
You are a person who seems to be always focused:
It is easy for you to concentrate on the task at hand. You seem to be a person who can focus at the drop of a hat. Outside noise and distractions do not bother you generally. When you put your mind to work, you have the tendency to tune out everything that does not apply.

Explanation:
Characteristics:
  • Within the framework, they are making their rules and regulations.
  • Love to work in their own way.
  • Father (parents) never forced them into anything.
  • Was given a lot of freedom.
  • Will not question others, trusting.

Ruled Paper Below Plain Paper Baselines

Formation: People who keep lined paper below the unlined paper.
Characteristics:
  • Follow rules and regulations.
  • They will like to be guided by rules and regulations.
  • They have a mindset to follow rules and regulations due to earlier enforcement.
  • Father expects a lot from them.
  • Take external support and project themselves as an independent.

Ruled Paper Between Line Baselines

Formation: Write on/over the line.
Characteristic:
  • Genuine Rebels
  • They break the rules.

Ruled Paper Far Above Baselines

Formation: Consistently written far above the line.
Characteristics:
  • Live in their own dream world.
  • Unrealistic - Not realistic.

Ruled Paper Middle Baselines

Formation: When written in the middle of the line.
Characteristics:
  • Attention seekers.
  • Always want to remain in limelight.
  • Will frequently do odd things to get attention.

Ruled Paper On Line Baselines

Formation: On the line.
Characteristics:
  • They follow rules and regulations.
  • Father disciplinarian.
  • Stick to rules.

Ruled Paper Preference Baselines

Formation: People who write on ruled paper [Preference to ruled paper]
Characteristics:
  • They need rules and regulations.
  • They like to abide and be guided by rules and regulations.
  • Prefer to be ruled.

Straight Baselines

Formation: Straight Baselines. (Straightish)
Characteristics:
  • Goal - Targets, focus.
  • Aim and objective are fairly clear.
  • With clear aims and objectives, the travel line is shorter.
  • Thus success is more available to straight baselines.
  • Those who plan are better than people who have no plan.
  • Waste less time. Things are fast.
  • People who have received consistent guidance have straightish baselines. Mostly from the father figure.
What to say
You are a person with strong emotional control:
You know how to focus and concentrate when it comes to controlling your emotions. In fact, you are probably considered a master at self-control. Others may envy you for your strength and capability. When they are around you, they probably feel weak in their own attempts to take charge of their lives.

Suicidal Baselines

Suicidal Baselines - Crashing Baselines
Formation: The baseline/s at the end that falls.
Explanation: The handwriting could be straight for the most part and suddenly one or two lines crash down on the right margin. It should be only one or maximum twice.
Characteristics:
  • Normal. Cheerful. Good talking.
  • They have rigid or straightish lines.
  • Give up at the end.
Tip: Technically it is relatively difficult to identify in a living person.
Graphology Reading = Character Reading. [Thoughts > Words > Action > Habit > Character]
But suicidal tendency is up to action. No Habit No Character.
Observation: When many lines fall, are classic quitters. Attempt to suicide. A person may be having a descending baseline but may not have suicidal ideation. On the contrary, a person may have a straight baseline but may have suicidal ideation which is betrayed by the crashing of the last words on the right margin.
What to say
You are a person who struggles with inner conflicts and emotions:
You are someone who may feel you have to defend yourself against others and even against your own thoughts and actions. You may find within your inner spirit, a tendency to despair. Sometimes you feel as if all hope is gone. You surely lack the energy to continue and you may even be suicidal. You might do well to seek some counselling from a professional who has the ability to turn your negative thoughts into positive ones and to lift your fallen spirit.

Wavy Baselines

Wavy Baselines - Erratic Baselines - Moody Baselines
Formation: When a baseline has a number of ups and downs, or ascending and descending it is called erratic or moody or unpredictable.
Explanation: They are unbalanced as the handwriting shows. They may laugh and cry easily and have lots of ups and downs in their lives.
Characteristics:
  • Distracted, not well guided.
  • Will take more time to complete a job.
  • Consume more time to achieve.
What to say
You are a person who may be viewed by others as one who is easily distracted:
You may allow emotions to rule. You find it easy to be distracted and it is not your cup of tea to take a firm stand as your thinking processes change often, which results in (as others see it) double mindedness.
