7 rules to abide by while placing Ganesha idol

Things to take care in Ganesh Chaturthi

7 rules to abide by while placing Ganesha idol:

1. Direction: Ganesh ji’s murti should be placed in North East, North, or East and avoid placing it in South, South West or South East.

2. Placement: Ganesh Ji’s back should never face your house/office. A lot of confectioners make this mistake and place Ganesh ji’s murti on their counters facing outside their space. His back needs to be facing the outer side of your house/office.

3. Position: The Ganesh ji’s statue should be in sitting position so that the God stays in your home. Whereas, for pandals ( during Ganesh chaturthi festival), it could be standing position.

4. Elements: The murti should depict abundance so make sure it has all his favourite things that are- Mouse (his conveyance), laddoo/modak (his favourite sweet) and the murti size should be 9” or above. You can make him wear yellow clothes and place a kalash filled with water, in front of him.

5. Trunk’s Orientation: Lord Ganesh ji’s trunk could be on left side, right side or in the middle. The key to judging the orientation of the trunk is to see the direction which Ganesh ji’s trunk has taken in the beginning (and not the direction which Ganesh ji’s trunk is pointing in the end)

6. Left Sided Trunk: for house owners, it is strongly advisable to keep left sided Ganesh ji’s statue at home. Left sided Ganesh ji statue represents Ida Nadi which is more cooling side or you can relate it to moon. It has more of feminine, cooling, nourishing and relaxing energies. Right sided trunk statue is generally kept in temples and requires you to worship with all the rituals correctly on everyday basis.

7. Trunk position: If you want to keep Ganesh ji’s murti for material gain and prosperity then the trunk should be touching or close to the laddoo. If you want to have spiritual gain and wisdom then his trunk should be close to or touching the Modak.
